Anaesthetic injected into stomach?

I went to my doctors today due to a bellyache constant for 3 months and they think it is muscular but suggested having anaesthetic injected into my stomach but suggested i "go and think about it". Why would I need to think about it? It's just an injection, right? Is there nasty side effects or something?
